Young, talented leaders who can cross barriers and work with others to overcome the world’s toughest challenges are needed in our more globalized society.

The Obamas and Brian Chesky, co-founder, and CEO of Airbnb established the Voyager Fully Funded Scholarship to aid in developing such top leaders. Both the President and Brian feel that exposure to new environments and experiences fosters the best understanding, empathy, and cooperation that empowers the next generation to effect meaningful change, despite the fact that they both come from disadvantaged backgrounds and are in need.

This program provides financial aid to help students pay off their school loans, enriching travel opportunities to broaden their perspectives, and a network of leaders and mentors to support them.

What the Scholarship provides:

Amount of financial aid: $50,000 In “last dollar” financial aid, students can get up to $25,000 a year for their junior and senior years of college. With the help of this financial aid, students should be able to pay off their college loans and pursue careers in public service.

Summer Voyage:

Between their junior and senior years of college, students will receive a $10,000 stipend and a travel credit from Airbnb to pursue a summer work-travel experience. The kids will create their own summer voyage to explore new places and build expertise in a certain profession.

10-year travel stipend:

The students will get a $2,000 travel credit from Airbnb per year for ten years following graduation, for a total of $20,000. As a result, students will be able to keep expanding their perspectives and making new contacts throughout their careers in public service.

Fall Summit:

Each fall, students will be invited to a summit to help define and inspire their public service journey.

Network of leaders:

Students will be granted access to a network of leaders by being invited to a regular speaker series throughout the course of the program. They will learn about new service opportunities and advancements taking place in their professions thanks to this network of leaders. After graduating, students will become a part of the global community of the Obama Foundation, which will make Foundation resources and programming available to them.
